    PENSACOLA, Fla. -- Servicemembers who give birth or have spouses that give birth can currently take up to 12 weeks off for parental leave after the birth of their child. As it stands now, military guidelines say the leave is only authorized during a year period. Top military leaders are having conversations in Washington about extending the time period from one year to two years because it can be difficult for to servicemembers to take advantage of it in that time frame.

    GULF SHORES, Ala. -- New research shows some of the shrimp that's eaten in Gulf Coast restaurants don’t actually come from the Gulf. A consulting company used genetic testing on shrimp at several restaurants in the Gulf Shores area and found some who claim their shrimp is locally-sourced is not. Industry leaders say the use of imported shrimp is hurting the local shrimping industry. It's something that has picked up steam in the shrimping industry -- imported versus domestic.

    To help pay for bridge repairs and the cost to replace the bridge, tolls would be enacted for drivers headed to the beach. Now, commissioners are trying to find out how much that toll should be. The county says the study is just a small portion of a larger task order. The task order altogether costs more than $385,000. County engineers tell WEAR News there are several factors behind the cost. Santa Rosa County commissioners approved a task order for tolls on Navarre Beach Bridge this week.

    PENSACOLA, Fla. -- For many in the Pensacola area, the name Alice S. Williams may bring back memories of a dedicated educator who was committed to educating Pensacola's African American youth. She's so notable that the first African American library in the city was named after her in the 1950s. For years, the library -- which sits on the corner of N E Street and Gonzalez Street -- has been shutdown. But now it may be getting a rejuvenation.

    SANTA ROSA COUNTY, Fla. -- Pine Blossom Road, just north of Milton, has been a notorious problem spot for flooding when severe weather rolls through. A resident who lives just off of Pine Blossom Road says his neighbors have experienced bad flooding for years. Richard Williams lives nearby on Cherokee Drive. In the past, he says flooding from Pine Blossom Road onto his street has been a big issue. Some in his neighborhood have even lost their homes.
