The opposition group on North Northamptonshire Council has announced its shadow portfolio holders – with some old faces and some new ones among those given positions. The Conservatives had a huge majority until they were overthrown by Reform at last month’s local election. With Reform’s 40-strong group now running the council, the Tories have 14 members. As the official opposition, their job is to hold each department of the council to account and to scrutinise how money is being spent.

A woman strangled to death in Burton Latimer has been named this evening (Monday, June 16). Isobella Knight, known to friends and family as Izzy, was just 32-years-old. Police were called to McDonald’s in Burton Latimer on Friday before Izzy’s body was found at a semi-detached house in nearby Donnington Road.

A Wellingborough drug dealer who was jailed for illegal possession of a shotgun – and then escaped from prison – has been back before the courts to be sentenced. The 46-year-old was the subject of a national appeal after he walked out of HMP Sudbury in April and disappeared for four days with a fellow inmate. The pair were eventually captured on the A45 Nene Valley Way near Earls Barton.
