The Apex landscape is about to change dramatically. Local leaders have marked the latest achievement for a $3 billion development that’s broken ground in Apex. Attendees at the Veridea site off Old Holly Springs Apex Road near Highway 55 and Interstate 540 gathered Thursday to commemorate the start of infrastructure construction, including wastewater, sewer and utilities. Joe Graziose Sr., RXR’s executive vice president of development, said infrastructure work will finish by the end of 2027.

Two years after purchasing the land, a Raleigh developer has broken ground on a $7.5 million retail and medical office project in Knightdale as more people chose to live in eastern Wake County. Atlas Stark Managing Partner Trey Adams said construction has started at the firm’s Knightdale Station commercial project. Located on two parcels at 0 Knightdale Blvd. and 7790 Knightdale Blvd., the project will bring seven buildings totaling 54,500 square feet.

Attention, former Kmart shoppers — the new blue light specials might be pickleball or even a hip twist on mini-golf amid a changing landscape of store closures and openings. Kmart at 4500 Western Blvd. in Raleigh has sat vacant since 2018 — on one of the last underdeveloped sites in the Triangle. Now, that’s about to change. Real estate firm CityPlat is breathing new life into the former KMart after purchasing it in January, with plans to make the big box into at least five separate retail suites.
