AbstractCirculating mineral concentrations are used to assess nutritional status or as markers for clinical conditions, but the quality of these measurements depends on the methods used for blood processing. Since the procedures for measuring mineral levels in blood are not standardized, discrepancies in sampling may influence the analytical results.

MORRISON – A 54-year-old Sterling woman is charged in Whiteside County court with financial exploitation of an elderly person and theft, which are punishable by four to 15 and three to seven years in prison, plus restitution, respectively. According to the charging document, on March 24, 2022, Jessie L. Freeman, “while standing in a position of trust and confidence,” took control of more than $50,000 but less than $100,000 of the woman’s SENB Bank account.

MORRISON – A Rock Falls man who recently entered into a plea agreement in 13 pending Whiteside County cases now is charged with appliance theft from a store in Dixon. Ryan Dean Hicks, 36, was sentenced March 11 in Whiteside County court to three years in prison in four cases, and to four terms of 1½ years in three others, with all sentences to run concurrently.

ROCK FALLS – The driver of a semitractor-trailer charged with improper passing in the death of a tractor driver is scheduled to appear in Whiteside County traffic court in Sterling on May 13. The sheriff’s crash reconstruction team still is investigating the collision, which happened April 3 when the 41-year-old Rock Falls man was hit and killed by a semi as he was driving a tractor south of Rock Falls, Sheriff John Booker said.

Rock Falls man sentenced to six years for Dixon DUI that injured six people

DIXON – A Rock Falls man who injured himself and five others in a four-vehicle drunken crash while running from Dixon police on Dec. 5 pleaded guilty Thursday to aggravated DUI, three or more convictions, and was sentenced to six years, with no credit for time served. Nine other charges filed against Ryan Lee Charleston, 41, who was has been held in Lee County jail since his arrest, were dismissed per a plea agreement. The court also has recommended he receive substance abuse treatment.

DIXON — A Sterling felon convicted less than a year ago of threatening over social media to kill two Reagan Middle School students is facing new drug charges in Whiteside County. Blake A. Keane, 21, and an unidentified 15-year-old Morrison juvenile were arrested around 9 p.m. April 5 at the Magnuson Hotel, 443 state Route 2, accused of trying to sell meth to two Lee County deputies, according to a news release.
Sterling allocates $370,000 in federal stimulus funds

STERLING – The City Council on Monday allocated $370,000 more of its $1,968,192 pool of American Rescue Plan Act funds “to address the negative economic impacts caused by the public health emergency” that was the COVID-19 pandemic. The biggest recipient so far has been the downtown Sterling Theater, which since Feb. 7, 2022, has been granted $456,000 in ARPA funding to repair the roof, improve lighting and replace the seats, among other economic aid and improvements.
