BRIDGEPORT — The Bulldogs are heading to Lincoln again. For a fifth straight year, the Bridgeport girls basketball team qualified for the state tournament following a thrilling 51-49 win over Battle Creek Friday in the Class C-1, District 5 final. Leading by 20 at the start of the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs were forced to hold off a furious Bravettes rally to to 25-1. Battle Creek scored the first nine points of the final frame to pull within 43-32 with just over five minutes to go.

BRIDGEPORT — For the sixth consecutive year, the Bridgeport girls basketball team is a win away from the state tournament. The Bulldogs captured their sixth straight subdistrict title with a 57-41 win over Ogallala 57-41 in the C1-10 final on Saturday afternoon at Bridgeport High School. Bridgeport improved to 24-1 and hosts Battle Creek in a district final on Friday. Entering Saturday’s matchup, both teams were already assured of advancing in the tournament.

LINCOLN — For the fourth consecutive year, the Bridgeport girls basketball team came away with a trophy from the girls state basketball tournament. After a loss to Lincoln Christian in the Class C1 semifinals, the Bulldogs gutted out a 36-32 win over Grand Island Central Catholic on Saturday, March 2 to finish third in the division. It marked the second straight year Bridgeport has won the consolation game.

It marked the second straight year Bridgeport has won the consolation game. The Bulldogs also have a second and fourth-place finish at state in C2 over the past four years.

KEARNEY — A stifling defensive effort powered the Bridgeport boys basketball team to a dominating 42-23 win over defending state champs Freeman on Saturday afternoon. With the victory in the Class C2-7 district final, the Bulldogs (21-5) advanced to the state tournament for the third time in the last six years and second in four seasons under head coach Sean Sterkel. Bridgeport held the Falcons to a season low in points and 24 under their season scoring average.
