In some cases, the warnings had been in place for decades, with the industry lobbying various state governments to remove them. The commercial fishing industry says revoking the warnings will see more locally caught seafood on supermarket shelves.

After a chilly week much of Queensland will return to warmer, average minimum temperatures tomorrow. The colder weather will stick around the southern peninsula and central eastern parts thanks to a cloud band. Rainfall is forecast to develop in northern parts today, with falls of up to 20 to 40mm expected and isolated falls of 60mm.

Five companies are planning to build or expand large-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in Bouldercombe, or nearby. Sunwater says turtles have begun using its turtle bypass at the Rookwood Weir in central Queensland. The ladder cost $4 million and is an Australian first. Sunwater will continue to monitor turtle activity in the river and supply research to state and federal agencies. At first glance a series of concrete slides alongside the Rookwood Weir near Rockhampton in central Queensland may not seem like a feat of engineering.

When Pete Hamilton was buried by 50 tonnes of grain on his central Queensland property, he did not think he would survive. "I remember the roar, then silence and the weight. I couldn't move. Only my face was above the grain," he said. Mr Hamilton was preparing to empty the grain silo on his property in Springsure, more than 300 kilometres south-west of Rockhampton, in February 2024.
