New data was released on grocery store market shares in the Chicago area. State of play: We still love Jewel. Albertson's (owner of Jewel) continues to lead the pack in our area, while Kroger's (owner of Mariano's) saw a 3% increase in its market share from last year. By the numbers: There are 176 Jewel-Osco stores in the greater metro area. There are 33 Mariano's Fresh Market stores. Batavia-based Aldi has more than 160 stores, but less than 4% of market share.
