    A whiteout is heading to Winnipeg this weekend, as the Jets face off against the St. Louis Blues in the first round of the playoffs. The Winnipeg Jets begin the series at home, with games one and two scheduled for Saturday and Monday at the Canada Life Centre. To cheer on our team, the city is hosting its Whiteout Street Parties, which will see fans take over the streets of downtown Winnipeg to celebrate the Jets when they play at home.

    The chief of a First Nation in Manitoba is facing charges of sexual assault. According to Saskatchewan RCMP, Donald Smoke has been charged with two counts of sexual assault. Smoke is currently the acting chief of Dakota Plains First Nation, located southwest of Portage la Prairie, Man. Mounties noted the charges come after they received a report of sexual assault in June 2024. Investigators determined the incident took place in Kindersley, Sask., in February 2024.

    The City of Winnipeg is set to pay tribute to legendary rock band Bachman-Turner Overdrive with an honorary street naming. On Monday, Councillors Markus Chambers and Ross Eadie announced the honorary naming of a section of the Disraeli Bridge Roadway to Bachman-Turner Overdrive. The goal of this dedication is to acknowledge the band’s connection to the city and major contributions to the world of music.

    Construction to reopen Portage and Main continues to progress; however, a lot of the aesthetic work remains. On Monday, the Winnipeg Public Service provided a verbal update on the pedestrian opening of Portage and Main, saying that though it may look like work is almost complete, a lot of small details still need to be fine-tuned. It notes that the hoarding that was up at all four corners has mostly been taken down. All the hoarding is expected to be removed in the next few weeks.
