    Evacuation orders are lifting in a pair of Manitoba communities that saw thousands flee due to wildfires. According to a post on the Lynn Lake Facebook page, residents can return as of 8 a.m. on Friday, with buses being arranged for those in need of transportation. Lynn Lake remains under an evacuation alert, which means residents will need to stay prepared to leave again if fire conditions worsen.

    A house fire in Winnipeg’s North Point Douglas neighbourhood is causing Friday morning road closures in the area. The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service was first called to the blaze in the 100 block of Euclid Avenue just before 5 a.m.Traffic is blocked on Euclid. Drivers are asked to avoid the area. Images from the scene show crews working to extinguish the fire, as well as damage to the exterior of the home. CTV News has reached out to the City of Winnipeg for more information.

    A fire in the RM of Gimli closed down a landfill in the community. According to a public notice, crews responded to the fire at Arnes Landfill around 4 a.m. on Thursday. Firefighters were on scene throughout the day working to extinguish the blaze. The landfill was closed to the public on Thursday and may be closed again on Friday. CTV News reached out to the RM of Gimli for an update.

    A memorial for city councillor Jason Schreyer will be held on Friday evening. The service is scheduled for 6 p.m. at St. Alphonsus Church and Hall, located at 315 Munroe Avenue. CTV News first reported Schreyer’s death on April 30, 2025. Details on the cause of his death have not been released. Schreyer served as councillor for Elmwood-East Kildonan since he was first elected in 2014. He was 57 years old at the time of his death. Related Stories

    The parents of a missing teenager are continuing their search after their daughter disappeared 17 years ago today. Jennifer Catcheway went missing on her 18th birthday on June 19, 2008. The teen was on her way home from Grand Rapids to her parents’ home in Portage la Prairie, but she never made it. Jennifer’s parents’, Bernice and Wilfred Catcheway, said every day without their daughter has been difficult. Bernice said it still feels like her daughter just disappeared, though years have passed.
