The Winnipeg Police Service has made an arrest following a months-long investigation into a series of break, enter and thefts of businesses across the city. The investigation began at the start of the year. Officers identified a suspect, which led to the search of a home in the 200 block of Park Manor Boulevard.

A vacant Winnipeg building that’s been the site of several fires went up in flames again on Saturday. According to the City of Winnipeg, crews received reports of the fire on Sutherland Avenue around 7:40 p.m.When firefighters got to the scene, they found smoke and flames coming from the building and launched an exterior attack. Crews remained on scene throughout the evening until the fire was fully extinguished. No one was hurt in the fire, which is under investigation.

Manitobans are being encouraged to stay safe in the heat as temperatures are expected to rise in the province. On Saturday afternoon, Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) issued heat warnings for several southern Manitoba communities, including in Winnipeg. According to the weather agency, daytime highs in the low-to-mid 30s and nighttime lows of 16 degrees or warmer are forecast from Sunday through Tuesday.

The Winnipeg Police Service arrested a 29-year-old man in connection to three robberies within the span of an hour on Friday. Police allege the incidents began at 6 p.m. when the suspect, who was armed with a gun, went to a hotel lounge in the 1400 block of Notre Dame Avenue and stole a bottle of vodka from the bar. He left the scene before police arrived.

Members of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) were part of a dramatic rescue on Saturday morning, saving a person who was hanging from a window of a burning apartment building. Crews were called to the fire on Gaylene Place just after 1:30 a.m., receiving reports that people were trapped inside the building. Once firefighters got to the scene, they found flames coming from the building.
