COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL)- The First Alert Weather Team continues to monitor storms moving through the region this evening. Power outages and damages are reported across western and central Alabama. As these storms push through, a few will be strong to severe. Sunday: These storms will exit by 10PM ET tonight, giving us a few hours before the next round. Another chance for severe weather is possible early Sunday morning, making us WEATHER AWARE.

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) – This evening, we are tracking a few showers and storms entering the region. Most areas will remain dry, but any storm that does develop could bring heavy rain. Saturday: We are WEATHER AWARE tomorrow as a line of storms moves in from the north. Parts of the area are under a level 3/5 risk for severe weather, and the rest of the region remains a 2/5 risk. Primary threats are damaging winds up to 70mph, small hail, and brief tornadoes.

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL)- Last September, the city of Smiths Station broke ground on its first-ever storm shelter. For Residents:Residents can find the storm shelter located right behind City Hall on Lee Rd 430. This facility is built to hold roughly 500 people. There are also plans for this to be a multi-purpose building, so it can be used year-round. The city is still working with FEMA to determine the shelter rules. It is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2026.

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL)- For the rest of your Thursday evening, we are still tracking a few pop-up showers. These showers will fizzle out over the next few hours. Friday: Another hot, humid day is in store tomorrow. Temperatures will reach into the 90s by Friday afternoon, and add in the humidity, heat index values will be close to 100 degrees. Isolated storms will be building by early afternoon. We anticipate that the severe threat will remain to our north.
