    Louisiana lawmakers are sending a bill that expands who can be sued over an abortion to Gov. Jeff Landry’s desk. Lawmakers have changed the bill quite a bit throughout the process, and the state House on Tuesday agreed to a final set of changes. House Bill 575, by Greenwell Springs Republican Rep. Lauren Ventrella, gives a woman who has an abortion the option to sue anyone alleged to have “knowingly performed or substantially facilitated" the abortion for a minimum of $100,000 in damages.

    In the final days of their lawmaking session, Louisiana House Republicans narrowly struck down 48-53 a bill that would have given modest assistance to low-income homeowners struggling with rising home insurance costs. Senate Bill 235 by Sen. Royce Duplessis, a New Orleans Democrat, would have given an income tax credit to help offset the cost of homeowners’ insurance for those whose household income is 200% of the federal poverty line or lower.
