After 22 years in law enforcement, Arroyo Grande Police Chief Michael Martinez will retire at the end of May, according to a city news release Tuesday. In its release, the city said it “has received and accepted the retirement notice” from Martinez, who took over as chief of police in 2020 after the retirement of the late Beau Pryor. “The greatest part about being the police chief has been watching the development and accomplishments of the members of the department,” Martinez said in the release.

As the weather heats up, so are San Luis Obispo County gas prices. According to GasBuddy.com, the average cost of a gallon of gas jumped to $5.01 per gallon on Saturday — the first time it has clocked in over $5 since June 2024. That comes after local prices began increasing March 28 — going from $4.77 the day before to $4.80 — and steadily continued their upward climb in the days following. In total, local prices went up more than $0.24 in a little over a week, according to GasBuddy.
