It is well known in the economics profession that tariffs are equivalent to a sales tax; it is also well known that consumption taxes, like sales taxes and tariffs, are highly regressive (the lower income you are, the more you pay in taxes). It is also well known that, in general, higher taxes do not lead to increases in economic growth. So why are we so in favor of tariffs? Raising tariffs to combat trade inequities is IDENTICAL to raising wealth taxes to combat income inequities.

Most tariffs, and especially broad-based tariffs, are an economically illiterate policy. 1. There is near full price pass through to domestic consumers. Here at KSBY, we are saying goodbye and congratulations to a very special member of our team. Operations Director Kelly Teel is retiring after more than 40 years at the station. While you are most familiar with those you see on camera, Kelly works behind the scenes. He's the station's chief videographer and in charge of the crew you don't see that brings you the news every day. He works with new reporters teaching them the ropes of videography and maintains the video gear.

California is the fourth-largest electricity producer in the nation, generating about 5% of the country’s energy, according to the Energy Information Administration. A large part of that energy comes from the state’s last operating nuclear power plant — Diablo Canyon. “We safely generate power for about three million Californians," said PG&E spokesperson Suzanne Hosn. And after years of uncertainty about its future, Diablo Canyon is still powering on.

Diablo Canyon Power Plant is turning to artificial intelligence in what PG&E says is a first for nuclear power plants. The agreement with Atomic Canyon's Neutron Enterprise AI solution was announced Wednesday. PG&E says it will use the technology on-site to access data and free up employees to manage the plant itself. PG&E spokesperson Suzanne Hosn says employees spend countless hours accessing and managing billions of pages of technical documentation spread across multiple platforms.
