Police found the body of Linda Walton, 37, in a hearse parked underneath a tree on Thursday after they were called to investigate a foul odor in the town of Graham.     A man convicted of murder requested a new trial on Wednesday, citing widespread problems with the state’s crime lab and an investigator accused of misrepresenting blood evidence in his case. Attorney Diane Savage said in a court motion that a new trial is necessary for George Goode, adding to the legal morass caused by questionable practices at the State Bureau of Investigation. “I think justice kind of demands that he gets a new trial,” Savage said in an interview with The Associated Press.

    Authorities have arrested a suspect and are looking for another in the death of a Spring Lake man who was shot during a party in Fayetteville Saturday night. Harvey Sangster, 26, of 5506 Quarter Pole Lane, Hope Mills, faces a charge of first-degree murder in the death of Bryce Marcel Lee. Lee was taken to a local hospital, where he died Sunday evening.
