    DENVER — A man can no longer walk after a 15-year-old-boy shot him outside an elementary school in Denver one year ago. The teenager was sentenced last week. When Angelo Duran had a chance to speak to the shooter in court, he told the boy he forgave him. Duran and his brother work at the University Hills Farmers Market every Saturday. Afternoons there are never slow. They keep moving. Duran has been operating his stand for several years. A day last fall could've changed it all.

    DENVER — A year and a half after someone shot and killed 16-year-old Luis Garcia outside East High School in Denver, his family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the high school, Denver Public Schools (DPS), and the DPS school board. Court documents claim all of them were negligent in maintaining student safety and failed to provide enough safety measures under the Claire Davis School Safety Act after the district removed School Resource Officers (SROS).

    Early in the investigation of the Alexander Mountain Fire, several staff members at Sylvan Dale Guest Ranch suspected a co-worker had started the fire, as he was the only one who would have been in the area where the fire began, court documents said. An unsealed arrest affidavit shared more details about why investigators arrested and charged Jason Hobby for arson, impersonation of a police officer, menacing, false imprisonment and impersonating a public official.

After some disastrous public feedback sessions during prior searches, the city decided to hire him without community input. Some in the community have been critical of his private hiring.
