The scale of last-ditch efforts to save Aberdeen engineering firm Belmar before its closure have been revealed. Owned by the Ritchie family the business entered liquidation earlier this week with the loss of 48 jobs. Just 18 months ago the firm took in energy industry veteran Mark Patterson and his firm Mansefield Investments in a bid to turn around the struggling business. But despite a determined effort, the once-thriving city firm has now closed, owing millions of pounds to creditors.

An Aberdeen engineering firm has entered liquidation and made 48 people redundant. Belmar Engineering had struggled with increased international competition, losses and falling orders, which had an impact on the firm, according to liquidators. Michael Reid of MHA will wrap up the affairs of the Abbotswell Road based business. Staff were informed of the situation at a meeting yesterday.

Aberdeen-headquartered RSD Supplies & Services has been bought by a Glasgow firm in a six-figure deal. The procurement company, founded in 1999 by Bob Cowie and Abbey McDonald, is now owned by Grandholm Production Services. Sarah Colville, who took over the firm following the death of her father Bob in 2023, said now was the right time to sell to “safeguard the future of the business”. RSD Supplies & Services, which has a turnover of £8 million, employs 10 people at its Poynernook Road base.

Bosses at Aberdeen accountancy firm Hall Morrice are celebrating a record year and growing staff numbers. The independent business has seen its turnover reach £6 million, achieving a revenue growth of 65% during the past three years. Its audit and advisory services has seen a “significant” expansion with its client base rising to more than 170 businesses. Operations director Ian Mackie said he was “proud” of the “fairly substantial” growth.

A father and son team are aiming to set a “new standard” with their newly launched engineering firm. Liam and Bob Stephen have opened Specialised Seals International within Aberdeen Energy Park. The duo have invested £250,000 in new machinery, equipment and software at the 1,549 sq ft unit within the Energy Development Centre in Bridge of Don. Bob, 63, has taken himself out of retirement to launch the new business with son Liam.
