Chase Briscoe has been known as a Saturday guy in recent weeks, winning three straight poles. Now he's a Sunday guy. Briscoe held off teammate Denny Hamlin at Pocono Raceway to win Sunday's Great American Getaway 400, making him the 11th different winner in the Cup Series this year. "An amazing day for our race team," Briscoe said on TV after celebrating the third Cup Series win of his career. Hamlin, Ryan Blaney, Chris Buescher and Chase Elliott rounded out the top five. We're down to single digits and now we have 11 different winners. After Sunday's Great American Getaway 400 at Pocono Raceway, only nine races remain in the NASCAR Cup Series regular season. Chase Briscoe claimed his first win of the season Sunday, becoming the 11th racer to win a race this season. Briscoe was thin on fuel during the final stage, but had enough gas and horsepower to hold off Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Denny Hamlin in the final laps.

Denny Hamlin returns this week after missing last week's race in Mexico City. He stayed home after the birth of his third child midweek. He'll be easy to find. Hamlin will lead the field to green Sunday after winning Saturday's pole qualifying with a speed of 172.599 mph around the 2.5-mile Pocono Raceway. Sunday's race is the fifth and final 2025 broadcast on Amazon's Prime Video.

Ken WillisDaytona Beach News-JournalIt was this week, 25 years ago, when Pocono was the stage for one of NASCAR's rare occurrences of that age. It was mid-June of 2000 when Dale Earnhardt got the bum's rush on the final lap, entering the final turn, with the checkers in sight. Jeremy Mayfield did the honors, executing a textbook bump-and-run to get the third of his five Cup wins before his career flamed out in a big way (do your own research because we're here to gamble, not air dirty laundry).

Sure, NASCAR is going from a 15-turn road course in Mexico to a familiar old track in the Pocono Mountains, but Pocono Raceway isn't your typical stock-car oval track. Pocono takes the "tri-oval" concept to an extreme. Track construction began in the mid-1960s, six years after the opening of Daytona International Speedway brought a whole new tri-oval to racing. Pocono would become more triangle than tri-oval, however, with three distinctly different turns.
