New Smyrna Beach’s Jim Musante not only completed his 45th consecutive Boston Marathon, he continued a recent trend of bettering his previous year’s time. A year after surprising himself with a time of 3:34:02, Monday he bettered that time by nearly nine minutes, covering the famed 26.2-mile course in three hours, 25 minutes and five seconds. That 3:25:05 placed him 19th in the men’s 65-69 age group. He averaged a 7:50 mile pace and ran his final mile in 7:43.

Ken WillisDaytona Beach News-JournalWill this weekend be the possible preview of the NASCAR Cup Series' eventual return to Rockingham? Marketing forces would indicate against adding an off-Broadway locale to the schedule, but remember, we have options: the preseason Clash and midseason All Star Race, which this year are hosted by Bowman-Gray Stadium and North Wilkesboro. Rockingham Speedway was a regular stop, twice a year, for the Cup Series between the mid-'60s and mid-2000s.

Ken WillisDaytona Beach News-JournalRory McIlroy's Masters win brought him immense relief, comparable to Bobby Jones's relief in 1930. Jones's success and subsequent fame likely contributed to the creation of Augusta National and the Masters Tournament. In terms of a single golfer’s singular goal, Rory McIlroy’s Masters win delivered the biggest relief a golfing giant has felt in 95 years.
