One of Queensland's most expensive neighbourhoods has blocked an "inappropriate" affordable housing project intended to ease the shortage of homes. The state government announced it will scrap a four-storey project in Tewantin, in the Noosa Shire, citing community concerns that it would destroy the character of the seaside town. Noosa Council had fiercely campaigned against the "massively overscale development", saying it was too tall and would ruin the "low-key, leafy village feel" of the suburb.

The City of Moreton Bay council has begun throwing away rough sleepers' tents and other possessions as it cracks down on "illegal" homeless campers. On Wednesday morning council rangers and police officers began dismantling tents at Eddie Hyland Park, north of Brisbane. Homeless woman Carol Ross said rangers gave her one hour to remove her personal belongings from her tent before they loaded it onto the back of a garbage truck.
