The City of Sault Ste. Marie recently purchased a property at the northeast corner of Second Line West and Goulais Avenue for $115,000 more than the former owner paid for it last year. In January, the City of Sault Ste. Marie purchased the property at 628 Second Line W. for $710,000. On Monday, the commercial building on the site was demolished at a cost of $124,500 as part of the city's plan to improve traffic flow in the area with either a roundabout or right-turn lane.

SAULT STE. MARIE - Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre spoke at length about catch and release laws and the opioid crisis during a large 'Canada First' rally Tuesday in Sault Ste. Marie – in support of local candidate Hugh Stevenson. At least 1,000 people packed into The Machine Shop in the Canal District for the rally, causing some traffic headaches before and after the event. Organizers estimated the crowd was 'almost 2,000 people' but could not provide an exact count.

At least 1,000 people packed into The Machine Shop in the Canal District for the rally, causing some traffic headaches before and after the event. Rallygoers passed a number of protesters who were on the property to oppose the visit by Poilievre.

A group of students from Thailand have been in the Sault experiencing Canadian culture and something they are not accustomed to — snow. On Sunday, 15 male and female students aged 11 to 17 and their two teachers took to the ice at the Northern Community Centre to experience the Come Try Ringette event hosted by the Sault Ringette Club. Although there are a small number of ice rinks in Thailand, there are far fewer opportunities for students there to use them compared to in Canada.

Plans for a city-owned property on Second Line West at Goulais Avenue may not have been finalized, but the demolition of the former pawnbroker and pet shop is underway. Sault-based Rainone Services landed a $124,500 city contract to tear down the commercial building at 628 Second Line West. Rainone was low bidder on the project, winning the job over Avery Construction Ltd. of Sault Ste. Marie ($133,126) and Green Infrastructure Partners Inc. of Markham, Ont. ($127,000).
