    An official ribbon cutting ceremony for a new gazebo at the FJ Davey Home took place yesterday afternoon. The gazebo, for FJ Davey Home residents and their visitors to enjoy, was built in honour of a past resident - Bob Burns - who died in 2023. Fran Burns, Bob’s widow, cut the ribbon surrounded by FJ Davey Home management team members. “I'm very excited. Bob used to sit under the old gazebo and read and we would have family picnics here,” Fran told SooToday.

    Darrell Fox cycled into the Sault late Thursday afternoon as he continued his cross Canada journey to raise funds for cancer research and mark the 45th anniversary of brother Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope.   Accompanied by seven other cyclists, Darrell began his journey in Vancouver on June 9, 2025. Thursday marked the eighteenth day of his 32-day trek to St. John’s. Darrell and his team will be resting at Sleep Inn before resuming their gruelling cycling trip Friday morning.

    Several residents along Highway 630 remain trapped this morning after a severe storm last night washed out a large section of the highway. It's expected that the MNR will need to use helicopters or float planes for the evacuation Campers are stuck at the Kiosk campground and no way out for hundreds at the north end of Algonquin Park. Park staff are worried about camper safety and the lack of food. Highway 630 down to Kiosk is washed out.
