Mobile police are investigating a shooting Sunday evening at the Saenger Theater downtown. “We’re currently working a shooting that occurred at the Sanger downtown,” according to a statement from Blake Brown, public affairs manager for the Mobile Public Safety Department. No additional details were immediately available, according to Brown. “I can tell you this is not an active shooter situation and the subject has left the area,” he stated.

The execution of Gregory Hunt for the 1988 beating death of a Walker County woman has been set for June by Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey, the governor’s office announced Wednesday. The execution by nitrogen gas will be held at the William C. Holman Correctional Facility in Atmore between 12:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 10 and 6 a.m. Wednesday June 11, according to a statement from Ivey’s office.

A Texas woman was killed Sunday morning in a two-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle and a van along Interstate 65 in Butler County, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. Claudia E. Ramirez, 50, of Corpus Christi, Texas, was killed when the 2024 BMW Motorcycle she was operating struck a 2009 Ford Econoline van driven by Richard L. Pitchford, Jr., 34, of Foley, according to a statement from ALEA.

The Alabama Supreme Court has authorized the execution of death row inmate Gregory Hunt for the 1988 beating death of a Walker County woman. All nine justices on the court, in a ruling issued Thursday, unanimously authorized the execution beginning no less than 30 days from the date their order was issued. Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey will now have to set an execution date. Attorneys for Hunt had not responded to a request by AL.com for comment prior to publication of this story.
