NORTH HAVEN (WTNH) — Coming up this Friday are the opening ceremonies of the 2025 Connecticut Special Olympics. Some of the athletes taking part are clients of the Goodwill organization. Goodwill is celebrating those special athletes. John Cheesman is working his normal job on Wednesday at the Goodwill donation center in North Haven. “I sort the clothes, give them to my co-workers if they’re nice and clean,” Cheesman said. Goodwill is much more than just a place to donate your used clothes.

NORTH HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A machine now on the Quinnipiac University campus in North Haven is designed to save lives by teaching more people how to do CPR. “Over 350,000 cardiac arrests happen each year,” Connecticut Executive Director of the American Heart Association Adria Giordano said. “Ninety percent of them happen outside of a hospital. This kiosk can help change these statistics.”The kiosk is now in the lobby of Quinnipiac University’s law school.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Students at New Haven’s Engineering and Science University Magnet School (ESUMS) spent Monday morning demonstrating what they’ve learned this year. From drones to robots to go-karts, they showed the benefits of hands-on learning. For instance, the high school students made remote-controlled drones completely from scratch. “We had to utilize an engineering design process,” ESUMS junior Austin Moral said.

(WTNH) — New Haven’s future business leaders spent Thursday morning pitching their ideas in a format that looks a lot like the TV show “Shark Tank.” The competition has the future entrepreneurs learning what it takes to go to the head of the class. On Shark Tank, entrepreneurs pitch their business ideas to the “sharks.” New Haven high schools have their own version. They call it the Battle of the High Schools. It’s held at Southern Connecticut State University.
