FRESNO, Calif. – The 16-year-olds accused in the murder of 18-year-old Caleb Quick made separate court appearances Wednesday, where an attorney for one of the teenaged suspects already began a defense. Quick was shot and killed shortly before 9 p.m. on April 23 outside a Clovis McDonald’s.

FRESNO, Calif. – A trio of federal lawsuits alleges several Fresno police officers engaged in a pattern of civil rights violations. In all three cases, police have denied the allegations and requested a trial date. The cases were brought by Fresno business owners who were arrested in their workplaces on charges related to firearms and narcotics.

CORCORAN, Calif. – Two years after a pair of Kings County prisons narrowly avoided catastrophic flooding, a state audit released last week now argues those prisons would not have been prepared to evacuate quickly. In fact, the audit argued that most prisons – in addition to California State Prison, Corcoran, and the nearby Substance Abuse Treatment Facility – could not fully evacuate their incarcerated populations within three days.

TIJUANA, Mex. – A Kern County fugitive wanted for murder was arrested in Tijuana late last week. Cesar Hernandez, who escaped from authorities in Kern County four months ago, was apprehended eight days after allegedly killing a Mexican police officer.

TIJUANA, Mex. – The U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) is offering a $35,000 reward for any information on the whereabouts of escaped Kern County fugitive Cesar Hernandez. Hernandez, who escaped from custody while being transferred from Kern Valley State Prison to a court appearance last December, is now also wanted for killing the leader of an elite Mexican police unit that tracks down American fugitives in a shootout in Tijuana last week.
