Around 38 million Americans are estimated to have diabetes, and over 20% of that number is aware that they have the disease, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s national diabetes statistics report (CDC). And Black adults are 1.4 times more likely than white adults to be diagnosed with diabetes, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health’s report on diabetes and Black/African Americans.
