I told the congregation that it was the story behind the helmet that I wished to share. A member of our church, Robert, displays the helmet in his “Auburn room” at home and told me how he obtained it. He stood on the practice field one day watching the team when a player angrily confronted the coach, threw his helmet on the ground and stormed off.

Cleaning the kitchen, scrubbing toilets and mopping floors often feels like an interruption to my schedule. And my attitude while doing these chores often shows, especially when I’m exhausted. One day, in the midst of a particularly grumpy time, God used an email to prick my conscience. One of my blog visitors emailed me saying, “I’m setting a goal to consistently respond in a cheerful voice to my husband, even when I feel very tired.” Sheila’s message challenged me.

I sent it to my wife in a text message. With love, she responded, “Honey, you know he didn’t actually say this, right?” She was right. As I kept searching, I discovered he didn’t say this.
