When someone gets news that a new subdivision or housing development is being build in or around their neighborhood, it's rare that their first reaction is optimism. Quite the opposite, it often fills people with worry: Will it lead to more traffic? Worse flooding? Disruptive new neighbors? Higher taxes? Lower property values? "There's just so much unbearable, monotonous, dreary development, and we've lost hope that we can do great things," said urban planner and developer Coby Lefkowitz.
