    KwaZulu-Natal Transport MEC, Siboniso Duma, has expressed concerns that 30 contractors who were awarded road tenders cost the department R4.6 billion because they don’t complete the projects by the deadline. Two of these contractors have abandoned projects altogether.     Residents at the Durban CBD have started a campaign to remove homeless people and drug addicts from parks and other public areas. Albert Park and Warwick Junction are among the areas that have been occupied following a raid by authorities under a flyover to the M4 next to the port in October last year.     Public order police have been deployed at the Richmond Magistrate’s Court in the KwaZulu-Natal midlands ahead of a bail application of a man accused of attacking his ex-girlfriend and gouged both her eyes using a screwdriver. The man is also accused of attacking the victim’s mother. The incident took place two weeks ago at Maswazini area of Richmond. The accused was later traced and arrested. Meanwhile,Police minister Senzo Mchunu is expected to attend the court proceedings.
