Located inside the historic Fondren neighborhood, Brent's Drugs is a classic drugstore that's been around since 1946 and serves classic ice cream favorites, milkshakes and diner comfort foods. But that's not the only thing special about the drugstore. Hidden in the back is a bar called The Apothecary, and this week it has made national news: the Jackson favorite was one of 27 included on the 2024 USA TODAY Bars of the Year list.

The Apothecary at Brent's Drugs in Jackson, made USA TODAY’s list of best bars in the country. The USA TODAY Bars of the Year 2024 list, released today, features 27 bars from dives to high-end cocktail bars. "We are very honored to be a part of this list. It's incredible," said Jonathan Shull, co-founder and co-owner.

The annual Neshoba County Fair returns Friday, July 26, through Friday, Aug. 2, in Philadelphia and plenty of great entertainment is in store for the week of the annual event that is known as "Mississippi's Giant Houseparty.""The Neshoba County Fair was founded in 1889 as a stock and agricultural exhibition and soon expanded to include horse racing, carnival rides, political speeches and musical entertainment," according to the Mississippi Country Music Trail website.

Tax-free weekend in Mississippi is quickly approaching and will begin at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, July 12, and run through 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, July 14, bringing crowds to many local stores in Jackson and surrounding areas. The sales-tax holiday applies to each eligible item selling for less than $100, according to the Mississippi Department of Revenue. Items priced at $100 or more are subject to sales tax at the regular retail rate of 7%. The tax holiday also qualifies for online purchases as well.

Thompson was selected as the 2023-2024 Choctaw Indian Princess at age 18 during her senior year of high school, and she is set to pass the crown to a new princess on Wednesday's opening night of the 74th annual Choctaw Indian Fair that began in 1949.
