The Irish Government and IDA Ireland today welcomed IBM's announcement to create additional high-value jobs in the south-east of the country. The leading global technology company will, over the next three years, hire up to 75 software engineers, dedicated to research and development (R&D), based in Waterford. Sinn Féin TD for Waterford David Cullinane has said that a recent batch of Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) reports, published this week, has highlighted significant concerns around a number of nursing homes, including a care home in Waterford. Multiple concerns were identified in a report on Kilbarry Care Centre this week, as reported on WLR. Deputy Cullinane said that this adds to the very serious issues raised by RTÉ earlier this month.
Death of Dawn Meats co-founder Dan Browne

The death has occurred of Dawn Meats co-founder Daniel (Dan) Browne at the age of 88. Mr Browne, late of Roncalli, Grantstown, Waterford, and formerly of Douglas and Fermoy, Co Cork, died peacefully at University Hospital Waterford yesterday (Tuesday). In a statement, the Board of Dawn Meats expressed its deepest condolences to Mr Browne’s wife, Kay, and his family.

Waterford City and County Council has approved a €672 million Capital Investment Plan. Approval was granted at the local authority's June plenary meeting at City Hall. Councillors were presented with a Capital Programme totalling €672 million, which sets out a roadmap for development across the city and county over the next four years. Waterford athletes enjoyed success at the World Sprint Duathlon Championships in Pontevedra, Spain this morning. Waterford Triathlon Club members Diane Behan, Cillian Clooney and Simon Befort are competing at the prestigious event. Today, Diane finished fourth in the 55-59 age category and Cillian came 6th in the 17 - 19 age group. The event consisted of a 5km run, 20 km cycle and 3km run.

TFI Local Link Route 356 to be enhanced from Ballinroad to Clonmel

From June 30th, TFI Local Link Waterford Route 356 will be increasing services between Dungarvan and Clonmel. This enhanced route is part of the Connecting Ireland Rural Mobility Plan which is a major national public transport initiative developed and funded by the National Transport Authority (NTA) as part of the Transport for Ireland (TFI) Network. Route 356 will operate eight daily return services from Monday to Sunday & Public Holidays, providing a new connection with Fourmilewater.
