A motorist was caught speeding at 188km/h in a 100km/h zone on the M50 at Templeogue in Dublin over the Bank Holiday weekend, as part of a nationwide garda road safety operation. The excessive speed was among nearly 3,000 speeding offences recorded between 7am on Thursday, May 29, and 7am on Tuesday, June 3, during an extensive roads policing operation targeting dangerous driving behaviour.

Two people have died after a house fire broke out near Connemara in Co Galway early this morning. Emergency services were alerted to the blaze at the premises in Gleann Mhac Muirinn shortly after 6am. The victims, believed to be the sole occupants of the home, were found inside the property. Three units of the Galway County Fire Service, including crews from Galway city and An Cheathrú Rua, responded to the call and are working to bring the fire under control.

Gardaí have launched an investigation into a suspected arson attack at a former pub in West Cork that left two men hospitalised. Emergency services responded to a fire at the old Morris Arms pub in Connonagh, near Leap, at around 8.30pm on Wednesday. The building, which has been disused for several years, was significantly damaged in the blaze. Two men, both aged in their 40s, were taken to Cork University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Gardaí have arrested a man in his 20s as part of an ongoing investigation into a series of suspected accommodation fraud incidents in South Dublin. The arrest was carried out on Friday, May 9, by members of the Serious Crime Unit based in Irishtown. It follows multiple reports made to Gardaí by individuals who claim to have been defrauded while seeking accommodation in the area during September and October of last year.
