JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. — Drivers will need to pay closer attention to their speed along Interstate 5 near Joint Base Lewis-McChord this week. The first work zone speed camera will be operational Wednesday near the base. There is no fine for the first work zone speed camera infraction. Every infraction after that is $248. The registered owner of the vehicle will receive the infraction and must respond either through mail or online, even if there is no financial penalty.

SEATTLE — The first Trader Joe's to open in Seattle in more than 13 years will welcome customers Friday in the Greenwood neighborhood. The 10,000-square-foot store at 8726 Greenwood Avenue opens for business at 9 a.m. A brief ceremony will be held minutes before the opening. The store hired 40 new employees and transferred others from neighboring stores. The interior of the store features art and signage by local employees and murals by local artist Stevie Shao.

SEATTLE — The Washington State Department of Ecology issued a drought declaration Tuesday for portions of south-central Washington with spring water runoff unlikely to replenish reservoirs and rejuvenate soil. In addition, parts of the Puget Sound region and north and central Washington are under a drought advisory.
