Three Mechanical Engineering Students at SUNY Poly have invented a machine that will crush aluminum cans. Some of the cans that end up at redemption centers don’t have a returnable deposit, so they end up recycled as raw aluminum. They take up a lot of space, so the students came up with a way to save space and speed up the process. SUNY Poly Mechanical Engineering Senior Gabriel Purcell says they’ve been communicating for months through texts with ideas and concepts.

UTICA, N.Y. -- The Department of Motor Vehicles has recently been inundated with people trying to get Real or Enhanced IDs. New federal regulations for flying domestically go into effect beginning on May 7. To fly within the United States, you’ll need a Real ID or a passport. A Real ID also gives you access to any federal building. An Enhanced ID permits you to board domestic flights, enter Federal buildings, and cross the U.S. border by land or sea into Mexico and Canada.

ORIGINAL STORY BELOW:SPRINGFIELD, N.Y. -- Multiple cats and dogs were seized during an animal abuse case in Otsego County. New York State Police responded to a call on Rt. 80 in the Town of Springfield. Two separate families are now facing possible animal abuse charges. About 20 members from the SPCA were called in to help contain eight dogs and at least 11 cats.
