MOUNT PLEASANT — The Charleston County coroner's Office has identified the bicyclist killed in a collision on Long Point Road the afternoon of May 22. In a post on X, Mount Pleasant police said Long Point Road heading toward the Wando Welch Terminal was closed at the interchange with Interstate 526 due to a collision resulting in injuries. The roadway opened about two hours after the collision.

A candidate who unsuccessfully challenged Republican Nancy Mace for her seat in Congress has now launched a legal fight with the Charleston County Library Board over whether the body must pledge an oath to the Constitution. The eight-page lawsuit filed March 27 on behalf of William "Bill" Young asks a judge to declare any action taken by the library board this year to be invalid, block the board from taking further actions and strip nearly every board member of their position.

MOUNT PLEASANT — One officer and one civilian were injured March 18 in a police shooting near a shopping center, police confirmed. Mount Pleasant police responded to 651 Johnny Dodds Boulevard, near the Plaza at East Cooper, around 5:15 p.m. for a report of indecent exposure, department spokesperson Sgt. Robert Blaschke said during an 8 p.m. press conference. An officer fired their weapon shortly after arriving, Blaschke said.
