    NORTH CHARLESTON — After a federal corruption probe left three city council seats empty, residents in District 1 will not have representation on council for the foreseeable future. However, the mayor's office has pledged to fill in the gaps. Gov. Henry McMaster suspended Councilman Mike Brown from public office in February after charges came out in the FBI's sweeping federal corruption case against eight people, including three councilmembers.

    NORTH CHARLESTON — The city recently placed a cap on the number of short-term rentals in each district to control the inundation of vacation rentals in popular areas. But city officials aren't sure if the new restriction will help them crack down on rentals that operate without a permit. The updated ordinance, passed by City Council Feb. 27, limits the number of short-term rentals to 60 in each district, totaling 600 across North Charleston.

    NORTH CHARLESTON — Despite three vacant city council seats, it appeared to be business as usual at the regularly scheduled city council meeting Feb. 27, just one day after federal corruption charges came out against councilmembers Jerome Heyward, Mike Brown and Sandino Moses. The council sped through its planned agenda in less than 15 minutes without any discussions. Council approved a cap on short-term rentals and passed a first reading of an updated noise ordinance.
