The park service is preparing for high water with warmer temperatures this spring and summer. The snowpack for the Merced River Basin is at 241%, almost two and a half times a quote on quote "normal year." That means more than double the amount of water will flow through the valley.

UC Berkeley Central Sierra Snow Lab Lead Scientist Andrew Schwartz told KCBS Radio more than 650 inches of snow has already fallen. It's possible that California will pass the 1983 record for the second snowiest winter ever recorded today.
