SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Springfield city council has unanimously voted to support the ‘clean slate’ legislation. It’s part of a nationwide effort to reform the criminal justice system. The legislation would automate the sealing of eligible criminal records here in Massachusetts. 22 News spoke with Springfield city councilors who are in favor of the proposed law, saying it will remove the barriers to jobs, housing, and education, especially for people of color.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – It’s National Police Week, and on Tuesday, a memorial service honored Springfield officers who died in the line of duty. The city of Springfield paused Tuesday afternoon to remember its fallen officers. Each year, this quiet moment of reflection is held at Springfield police headquarters, honoring those who died in the line of duty. Seventeen names, engraved in the memorial stone outside the station, each representing a life lost while serving the city.

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – Dozens of local non-profits were recognized Tuesday evening for their contributions to the community. It was all part of the 23rd annual Customers’ Choice Community Grants event. Florence Bank hosted the award ceremony at the Garden House at Look Memorial Park in Northampton. Forty leaders of non-profits from the Pioneer Valley were awarded a total of $150,000.
