Minnesota legislative working groups continued to slowly reach agreements on budget bills in areas like transportation and commerce on Friday, but agreement remains elusive on some of the biggest and most contentious bills, like health, education and taxes. “This could get ugly really, really fast, unless they can get these agreements,” former DFL Party Chair Mike Erlandson said in a segment recorded for “At Issue with Tom Hauser” on Friday.

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency says an air quality alert is in effect for the whole state through Monday evening due to wildfire smoke drifting south from Canada. Northwestern winds will carry smoke from Manitoba and Saskatchewan over the next few days, with the worst concentration expected on Saturday. While the smoke will subside at times, the MPCA cautions that several waves are expected.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court on Friday again cleared the way for the Trump administration to strip temporary legal protections from hundreds of thousands of immigrants, pushing the total number of people who could be newly exposed to deportation to nearly 1 million. The justices lifted a lower-court order that kept humanitarian parole protections in place for more than 500,000 migrants from four countries: Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela.

Court records show Izak Daryn Schermerhorn of New York Mills, Minnesota, faces three counts of criminal vehicular homicide in connection with the death of Blake Unger on Wednesday night in Bluffton Township.

Police in River Falls are investigating a string of vandalism incidents that damaged several buildings and businesses early Thursday. Investigators believe the vandalism was carried out between 1 and 4 a.m.St. Bridget Parish School, one of the affected properties, had to cancel class on Thursday because of the damage.
