    LAWRENCE TWP. — Teak Toto and his Lawrence High baseball teammates have made it a point of emphasis to get off to a good start in the state playoffs. Toto reached base in all five plate appearances, Andrew Benitez homered in drove in four runs and the fourth-seeded Cardinals wasted no time jumping all over 12th-seeded Hamilton West in a 12-3 victory in the quarterfinal round of the Central Group III sectional on Thursday afternoon at Sonny Nictakis Field.

    It will be Thanksgiving week in Orlando for Mitch Henderson and his Princeton Tigers. The team announced on Wednesday it will take part in the Terry’s Chocolate ESPN Events Invitational from Nov. 24-26. The Tigers will feature in the eight team Adventure Bracket that includes NCAA Tournament participants Liberty and UC San Diego. The other five teams in the excellent field are Bradley, Rhode Island, Temple, Towson and Vermont. Each team will play three games on consecutive days.

    When Real Central New Jersey takes the pitch for its USL2 home opener on Wednesday night, the local club will have a slightly different look. It is kicking off the home slate of its fifth season by paying homage to the past. RCNJ will wear throwback jerseys to celebrate the 1976 Trenton Extension side that cemented itself as the best team ever from soccer-rich Mercer County.

The Rider University baseball team was so close to improbably forcing a winner-take-all game to decide the MAAC Tournament championship until Fairfield tied the game in the ninth inning and then won it in the 10th when Nolan Colby homered with two outs to give the Stags a 7-6 victory in a thrilling contest at Clover Stadium in Pomona, N.Y.The Broncs needed to win in order to force the ‘if’ game and twice rallied from a three-run deficit.
