0 Director Dennis Villeneuve made a splash in the realm of Science Fiction films when he released Dune: Part One in October 2021. Despite the massive hype surrounding this film, and the star-studded cast, the reviews were mixed. As a fan of Frank Herbert’s 1965 book Dune, I came out of the first instalment of this franchise deeply bored, and deeply unimpressed. I felt like I had watched three hours of uninteresting world-building and exposition.

0 The latest endeavour from Me Before You (2016) director, Thea Sharrock takes the form of the chocolate-box period comedy, Wicked Little Letters (2023). The film centres Edith Swan (Olivia Colman), a pious spinster, and Rose Gooding (Jessie Buckley), her disruptive Irish neighbour, in the quaint English town of Littlehampton. Based on the true story of the ‘Littlehampton Letters’, Sharrock’s film offers a tongue-in-cheek adaptation of the scandal.

The Nobel winning, twentieth-century epic, written by Władysław Reymont, has been adapted into a film for the third time. The project catches attention as every scene is hand-painted and carefully animated over the video footage.
