MOUNT KISCO, NY — The polls have closed and the time for campaigning is done. Voters in Mount Kisco weighed in on the contested race for two seats on the village Board of Trustees. Here are the latest unofficial results of Election Day 2024, according to the Westchester County Board of Elections. Village Trustee Karen Schleimer (D) is seeking an eighth term. Thomas Luzio is the chair of the village’s Democratic Committee. They are not campaigning together.
Route 9W To Close For Road Work

ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY — U.S. Route 9W will close in both directions between Short Clove Road and State Route 304, nightly between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m., beginning Monday, New York State Department of Transportation officials said. The work will start Sept. 23 and go through Oct. 4, to facilitate construction activities, weather permitting. Motorists should anticipate delays and follow the posted detour, DOT officials said.
Investigation Finds No Threat To Dutchess BOCES

“At approximately 9 a.m. on 9/20/24 the Sheriff’s Office became aware of a possible threat of violence made towards the Dutchess BOCES. The threat was made via social media and reported to school officials, who in turn notified the School Resource Officer (Sheriff’s Deputy),” Capt. John Watterson of the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office said.

ULSTER, NY — An appellate court has reinstated murder charges against a former New York State trooper over a thruway chase that ended in the death of an 11-year-old girl, saying prosecutors presented sufficient evidence to the grand jury that Christopher Baldner acted with depraved indifference, New York Attorney General Letitia James said Friday.
Hudson Valley Adds Non-Farm Jobs

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Metro areas in the Hudson Valley added private sector jobs in the past year, according to a new report from the New York Department of Labor. Non-farm jobs in the Dutchess/Putnam metro area rose to 144,400 from 142,600. In the Kingston metro area, they rose to 60,600 from 59,400. In Orange/Rockland/Westchester, they rose to 743,800 from 727,600. New York State's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased from 4.3% to 4.4% in August 2024.

GLEN COVE, NY — A 55-year-old motorcycle rider was hospitalized with critical injuries after a crash at lunchtime Thursday in Glen Cove, Nassau County police said. According to detectives, at about 12:28 p.m., a 64-year-old woman driving a 2001 Mercedes Benz ML 320 west on Brewster Street and making a left turn collided with a 2018 Honda motorcycle eastbound on Brewster near Mill Hill Road.
