Scientists have worked alongside Aboriginal traditional owners to discover an "exciting" new species of lizard in the Central Australian desert. Monash University researchers recently uncovered the new skink, dubbed the Liopholis aputja. Research officer Jules Farquhar said it was most closely related to the MacDonnell Ranges rock skink of the southern Northern Territory.

Shame. Sad. Scared. This is what a 15-year-old Alice Springs resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, says she feels when she sees racist content on local social media pages. The Warlpiri teenager saidthe harmful social media commentary had left her afraid to leave her house. "It makes me feel bad for my town, feel shame and want to stay away from everyone," she said.

Aboriginal health workers say distrust of health systems and a lack of awareness about the practice are key factors.
