Firefighters are currently tackling a wildfire at Hill of Beath. The Scottish Fire and Rescue service (SFRS) were alerted to the blaze shortly before 5pm on Saturday. One crew has been sent from the Kirkcaldy station and are still in attendance. Pictures posted on social media show smoke billowing from the hill. A spokesperson for the SFRS said: “We have one appliance in attendance at Hill of Beath. “We’ve had multiple calls come in for this. The first call came in at 16.48.

Dundee marked the 80th anniversary of VE day with a commemorative parade and remembrance ceremony on Saturday. The event began at 11am in City Square and was led by Lord Provost Bill Campbell. It included a short service conducted by Reverend Bob Wightman, who was supported by local clergy. Veterans, military organisations, cadet forces and reserve units also took part, reflecting the city’s proud wartime legacy and ongoing support for the armed forces.

A decision on the future of the Balmossie fire station in Broughty Ferry is expected to be made by the end of the month. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) is currently carrying out a review into their resources, including numbers of staff, appliances and stations. As part of this process, a group group of stakeholders – including SFRS staff and trade union representatives – met in April to evaluate a final list of proposed change options.

Raac campaigners have called for private homeowners in Angus to be included in any fix by the council. Councillors will meet today (Thursday May 8) to consider an options appraisal report for houses in Monifieth’s Milton Street. The local authority has 25 houses there which were built in the 1960s using the potentially dangerous material. The recommended course of action is to replace the roofs on each of these properties.
