Penn Medicine will stop providing gender-affirming surgeries for patients under 19 years old, the Philadelphia-based system said Thursday. Penn Medicine will no longer perform gender-affirming surgical procedures in plastic surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, and urology, as well as head and neck surgeries, PJ Brennan, Penn Medicine's chief medical officer, said in a statement. The change comes "as a result of current guidance established by the federal government," the statement says.

A man was shot in a car outside a hotel in West Philadelphia Wednesday evening, police said. The man was shot just before 6 p.m. in the parking lot of the Courtyard Marriott Hotel on the 4100 block of Presidential Boulevard, police said. The man then drove onto City Avenue, where he crashed into another car near the I-76 overpass. A man and woman who were inside the car he hit were injured and are in stable condition, Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

A 66-year-old is in the hospital after being shot in the head in North Philadelphia Monday, police said. A 74-year-old is in custody in connection with the shooting, which happened just after 7 p.m. on the 3300 block of North Park Avenue, Philadelphia Police Inspector D F Pace said. Police also recovered a gun from the scene, Pace said. Police believe an argument turned physical and led to the shooting, Pace said.
