It has announced that work on the next phase of the upgrade will start soon, but there is still no start or completion date, or final costings — although the government concedes it is likely to cost more than first anticipated.

Four-year-old Lucia was attacked by a Rottweiler while playing at a beach in WA's south west, with her mother fearing she may not survive the attack. Dr Kate Lindsey, a veterinary and dog behavioural specialist, believes the incident should never have happened. Dr Lindsey also offered some tips on how to respond if attacked by a dog.

The wreckage of a seaplane that crashed off Rottnest Island on Tuesday afternoon, killing three people, has been pulled from the water. The plane crashed into the water shortly after take-off in Thomson Bay with seven people on board. Police divers recovered the bodies of two tourist passengers and the aircraft's pilot. Another three passengers on the Cessna 208 were injured, while another emerged unscathed. Authorities have sectioned off a perimeter around the accident scene.

One of Perth's most popular swimming beaches has been closed after a shark was spotted circling inside a barrier designed to keep sharks out. Swimmers at Cottesloe Beach were told to get out of the water about 7:30am, after a 1.5 metre bronze whaler shark was spotted about 60 metres offshore, inside the shark net. The shark is now stuck in the net. One beachgoer, Lisa Iannello, said they arrived to the beach to hear the shark alarm.
