ALBANY — Portions of New York were feeling the impacts of Canadian wildfire smoke on Wednesday morning, which has descended heavily on the Midwest. Air monitoring showed particulate matter was in the “moderate” range in western New York and the Adirondacks as of 9 a.m., as well as in pockets across the Capital Region and Hudson Valley. That means the level could impact people who are “unusually sensitive to particle pollution,” according to the federal air monitoring website airnow.gov.

GOSHEN — A man and two children died in a fire on Pulaski Highway in this Orange County town Saturday night. State Police said they responded at 8:11 p.m. to the residence at 876 Pulaski to find the building fully engulfed in flames with people trapped inside. Article continues below this adDuring rescue operations, 50-year-old Shane Munn was found deceased inside. Two boys, ages 12 and 17, were also located inside and taken to Garnett Health Medical Center. They both succumbed to their injuries.

SCHENECTADY -- You can now own a piece of Capital Region history in the form of one of its oldest houses. The Yates House, a white Dutch Colonial in the heart of Schenectady's Stockade neighborhood, was built around 1725 by tanner Abraham Yates and is now being sold by Paul Mlodzianowski, whose wife's family has owned it from the start. The property at 109 Union St. is on the market for the first time.

SCHENECTADY — An officer discharged their weapon during an incident in which police allege an underage girl "began to approach officers" while holding a knife. Police released information late Wednesday about the incident, in which they said no one was injured. Article continues below this adSchenectady police said they were called to an address on Strong Street at 7:21 p.m. for a report of an altercation. When they arrived, they found a juvenile with what they described as a large knife.

BETHLEHEM — Guests at the Quality Inn off Route 9W were evacuated for about five hours early Tuesday morning after a man there barricaded himself in a room and threatened to hurt people. Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple said police were called around 4 a.m. for an emotionally disturbed person on the hotel's third floor who was making threats against people in the hotel, police officers and patrons next door at Stewart's Shops.
