    JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Sadly, over 1,000 children have died due to heat stroke in hot cars over the past 25 years. In fact, 39 children died in 2024 alone - that was up 35% from 2023. A child's body temperature rises three to five times faster than an adult's. Heat stroke begins when the core body temperature is around 104 degrees and death occurs when the core body temperature is at or above 107 degrees.

    JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is updating its criteria for issuing potential tropical cyclones, which will help provide advanced notice of strengthening tropical systems.   A potential tropical cyclone (PTC) is a system that is not yet a tropical storm or hurricane but could become one and bring impacts to land. Introduced in 2017, PTCs were originally issued 48 hours before potential landfall or land impacts.
