In a fitting setting — a Franklin Plan Commission meeting — city leaders honored long-time member Jim Martin. Martin has been a member of the commission for 34 years, also serving on the board of zoning appeals and in other capacities for the city. Mayor Steve Barnett and Senior Planner Joanna Tennell presented Martin with a plaque to recognize his service at the Tuesday plan commission meeting.

Johnson Memorial Health is hoping to open a new primary care office in Bargersville. The Franklin-based county hospital system is asking the town council to rezone 2.32 acres of a 5.952-acre parcel of land just east of the Bargersville Police Department at Whiteland and Morgantown roads. The land is currently zoned rural residential, and it would become C-2, local business, if approved.

In response to a new state law, a wheel and excise tax ordinance has rolled into Bargersville. The town council is the latest to consider a wheel and excise tax in response to House Enrolled Act 1461, a law requiring the taxes if local units of government wish to continue getting funds from the Community Crossings matching grant program.

The Bargersville Town Council has one map to consider for the town’s first division into single-member council districts. Beginning in 2026, the five-member council would be comprised of three members who must reside in a specific district and two at-large members who could be from any part of town.

An Indianapolis 19-year-old was convicted and sentenced Wednesday on several charges related to a pair of Greenwood gun store robberies that occurred in 2024. Javanta Tavainy Phillips was convicted in Johnson Superior Court 1 via plea agreement of two counts of attempted burglary as a Level 5 felony and resisting law enforcement as a Level 6 felony. Phillips was sentenced the same day by Judge Brandi Foster Kirkendall in an open plea agreement.
