    A former Franklin man is accused of raping and molesting a child for nine years. Joseph “Joey” Tyler Moore, 22, currently of Indianapolis, is charged with rape as a Level 3 felony and sexual misconduct with a minor as a Level 6 felony. The most recent incident happened in 2022, but the abuse was reported April 1. A woman learned of the abuse after Moore told her he was “attracted to children” and the victim.

    After years of anticipation for some and dread for others, the $66.2 million U.S. 31 project is finally under construction in Franklin. Work began Monday, and the typically four-lane road is down to two between Schoolhouse Road and Acorn Drive as workers rehabilitate the bridge and replace the box culvert over Canary Creek.

    River and creek levels are now slowly falling, but flood waters remain high in southern Johnson County. The Diftwood River in Edinburgh reached a crest of 16.57 feet at 4:15 p.m. Sunday and was measured at 16.28 feet at 6:30 a.m. Monday. The crest was a half-foot short of major flood stage, and is the fourth-highest recorded crest of the river at the Hendricks Ford Road measuring site in Edinburgh, according to data from the National Water Prediction Service.

    A viral post about LGBTQ+ pride and feminism flags hung up in a Center Grove teacher’s window became a point of contention at Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith’s Franklin town hall. A screenshot of text and a photo of the flags hanging in classroom windows at Center Grove Community High School were included in the post. The text of the photo encourages people to call the school to comment on the flags.
