This year's team features a cross-section of players from all levels in the Coastal Bend, led by the left-handed sophomore pitching duo from Calallen that keyed the Wildcats run to the state tournament.

It's the second consecutive year the Caller-Times All-South Texas team will come out after an area squad has won a state championship. Calallen won its second straight Class 4A state title in early June, and made some more history for the program and for South Texas softball. That state title also came with Weslaco winning the Class 6A title, giving the Valley its first state title in any girls sport.

The 2024 spring high school tennis season did not produce a state champion, but there will still plenty of stellar performances this season. The roster for the annual John Paul Barta Home Run Derby was announced Wednesday with nine Coastal Bend seniors set to face off on June 20 at Cabaniss Baseball Field. Gates are scheduled to open at 5:30 p.m. and first pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. with the winners able to earn scholarship money. The derby is done each year to honor Flour Bluff graduate John Paul Barta, who was killed in Iraq in 2006.
