(WKBW) — According to the Erie County Health Department and the Suicide Prevention Coalition, there were 94 reported deaths by suicide among Erie County residents in 2024, up from 72 in 2023. The owner of Jay's Barbershop in the Village of Hamburg hopes to help prevent suicides and raise awareness through a fundraiser. Jason Lape said the cause is important to him because he lost a friend to suicide on the same day he cut his hair years ago.

(WKBW) — As a young girl continues to battle a rare form of cancer, her family and the Kalfas Elementary School community in Niagara Falls are supporting her. 6-year-old Evelyn Rivera was diagnosed with a very rare and aggressive form of cancer last year. Her mom, Lineshka Rivera, a single, working mother, has had to take time off from work to be with her through the treatments. She recalled when she knew something was wrong last year.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — A celebration was held at Gene McCarthy's Tavern in Buffalo to mark the 125th anniversary of the day the keel was laid for the Edward M. Cotter, Buffalo's historic fire boat. Crowds enjoyed a special beer, "Cotter Icebreaker IPA," to celebrate Buffalo's fireboat. Larry Cobado, President of The Edward M. Cotter Conservatory said $1 from the sale of every "Cotter Icebreaker IPA" served will be donated to help preserve the fireboat.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Lipsey Architecture Center is expanding to a brand new museum on the Richardson Olmsted Campus. Construction is underway on the 11,000-square-foot facility, which will showcase Buffalo's rich architecture. "We're actively stabilizing and restoring the building to the way it was," LACB's Executive Director Paris Roselli said as he took me on a tour of phase one of the museum.
