Plastic pollution around Australia's beaches has dropped by 39 per cent in the past decade, according to new CSIRO research. A total of 8,383 debris items were recorded across 1,907 surveys in the peer-reviewed paper published in the Marine Pollution Bulletin on Thursday. Researchers surveyed inland, riverine, and coastal habitats across a100km radius around Hobart, Newcastle, Perth, Port Augusta, Sunshine Coast and Alice Springs between 2022 and 2024.

A civil lawsuit accusing Jay-Z of raping a 13-year-old girl alongside Sean "Diddy" Combs in 2000 was withdrawn in January.
