Plastic pollution around Australia's beaches has dropped by 39 per cent in the past decade, according to new CSIRO research. A total of 8,383 debris items were recorded across 1,907 surveys in the peer-reviewed paper published in the Marine Pollution Bulletin on Thursday. Researchers surveyed inland, riverine, and coastal habitats across a100km radius around Hobart, Newcastle, Perth, Port Augusta, Sunshine Coast and Alice Springs between 2022 and 2024.

Jay-Z has launched legal action against a woman who accused him of rape and her lawyers alleging they had conspired to extort money from him. A civil lawsuit accusing Jay-Z of raping a 13-year-old girl alongside Sean "Diddy" Combs in 2000 was withdrawn in January. The Jane Doe says she was assaulted by the rapper, whose real name is Shawn Carter, and Mr Combs after she was driven to a VMAs after-party at a private residence in New York City.

A 40-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly attempting to take 220g of cocaine to the Netherlands by hiding it in a wig. National Police in Colombia arrested the Peirara man at an airport in Cartagena, about 980km north of Bogotá, attempting to board a flight to Amsterdam, they said in a statement. Video released by police show an officer discovering the 19 capsules containing 400 doses of cocaine in the toupee-style wig after they appeared in an X-ray.
