    The James Coleman Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6802 has served its community for close to 80 years, and now the community is coming together to help the post. The vets would like to raise at least $15,000 to renovate their kitchen, a necessity at fish fry time to raise funds for the post and its community service projects. Those projects include support for veterans and local families in need, and scholarships for Richmond area students.

    The Romeo Rotary Club, Kids Coalition Against Hunger, and the Four County Community Foundation hosted a meal-packaging event recently at Grace Lutheran Church in Bruce Township. “Each packet contains enough to provide a balanced, nutritious meal to six adults or 12 children,” Sharon Smith, Romeo Rotary Club president, said. “It’s a fun time, only takes a couple of hours, and is a great way to make new friends while also doing something very impactful,” Smith said.

    Cody Conser-Quarterman, a third-grade student at Fraser’s Emerson Elementary School, received a donation from the Anchor Bay Rotary Club for a special section in the school’s library. The story was told in a newspaper earlier this year and seen by Rotary club president Laura Alfano. It said that Cody’s mother died when he was only five-years old but she had already inspired a love of reading in her son.

    The nonprofit Michigan Freedom Center Armed Forces Hospitality Center at Detroit Metro Airport that serves active duty, veterans, reservists, national guardsmen and NATO forces reached its one million milestone last month. The one millionth guest was Larry McKillop, a retired lieutenant colonel who served at Selfridge Air National Guard Base. He was on his way from Detroit to Denver at the time.

    National Vietnam War Veterans Day is March 29. The United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration, a program that thanks and honors veterans of the Vietnam War, came about in 2008. The National Defense Authorization Act empowered the Secretary of Defense to conduct the program that commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War. The commemoration concludes on Veterans Day this year but the special day continues.
